Executive Director and Volunteer Mentor Program Coordinator:
Susan Worley is a lifelong resident of Chapel Hill. She received her undergraduate
degree from UNC and also earned her masters degree in social work at UNC. In 1988,
she was hired as the executive director of Volunteers for Youth and has been with the
organization ever since. In addition to her director’s job, Susan coordinates Volunteers
for Youth’s mentoring program. Susan feels fortunate that her job allows her not only to help
connect many adults with children in need of positive adult role models but to serve as a
mentor herself to staff, interns, and volunteers at Volunteers for Youth. She has a passionate
commitment to the well-being of children and to her community and appreciates that her job
allows her to pursue both.
Susan serves on the board of directors of the Chapel Hill Historical Society, the advisory
board of the UNC Center for Public Service, the volunteer committee of Project Connect,
and as the convener of the Third Sector Alliance.
Juvenile Community Services & Restitution Program Coordinators:
Scott Dreyer joined Volunteers for Youth in January of 2002 as a coordinator in the
mentoring program. A native of Chapel Hill/Pittsboro, Scott moved back to the triangle
after graduating from UNC-Pembroke in 2000. Scott was first interested in Volunteers
for Youth for their hard work in helping youth before they get in trouble, as well as
assisting those who have made a mistake and need some help to get back on track.
Nicole Hunter has been with VFY for six years. She believes in helping young people
become successful adults. She started her academic career at UNC Charlotte, but
finished at NCCU. She loves VFY because it gives her a chance to interact with the youth
in our community, and help them in their time of need. She believes that a little
encouragement can go a long way in helping a young person to change the way that they
think and act. Working with our youth on a daily basis gives her some insight of what they
have to go through and helps her appreciate her own life. Nicole really enjoys her career at
VFY because she knows that all of the staff here really want to make a difference in a
young person's life.
Teen Court Coordinator:
Amy Fischer joined the staff at Volunteers for Youth in July 2008, shortly after
graduating from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA with a B.A. in Sociology and
International and Global Studies. While in college, Amy studied abroad in Santiago,
Chile where she honed her Spanish skills to become our resident Spanish speaker at
VFY.
