    Thank you to all who participated in the Volunteers for Youth gofundme Challenge! Thanks to your generous support,  Volunteers for Youth raised almost $3000 that will go towards providing mentors, community service activities, life skills groups, and teen court sessions to local youth.
  • Family Success Alliance, August 2016
    Volunteers for Youth is excited to be a part of Family Success Alliance, a collaboration of local agencies working to make a difference for local families. An initiative of the Orange County Health Department, Family Success Alliance replicates an evidence-based, national model to to strengthen or provide programs and services children need to ensure that they are born healthy, succeed in school, and get a good-paying job, thus improving their health and the health of their family.

  • Staff Changes, June 2015
    Volunteers for Youth is sad to announce that long-time staff member Nicole Hunter is leaving her position as community service coordinator at the end of this month for a new job with The Walking Classroom, a nonprofit devoted to improving student health and education. Nicole will continue running the Every Girl Counts group through Volunteers for Youth for the 2015-16 academic year. After eleven years at VFY, we know that The Walking Classroom will be lucky to have her!

    The Larry Fedora Auction was a great success and we are now gearing up for our next big fundraiser, the Larry Fedora Golf Tournament! The very first Larry Fedora Golf Tournament will be held on April 21, 2014 to raise money for the programs of Volunteers for Youth, directly benefiting local, at-risk children.
  • Larry Fedora Auction, September 2013
    We are excited to announce that Volunteers For Youth will be holding an auction at Larry Fedora’s weekly radio show.   • New VFY Staff Member, June 2013
    Teen Court Coordinator of five years, Amy Fischer, has moved to Maryland to pursue her Masters in Public Policy. Taking her place is Kate Giduz, a recent graduate of Elon University. Kate had the opportunity to work with Amy prior to assuming her new position as Teen Court Coordinator, helping to ensure a smooth transition.   • 5% Day at Whole Foods!
    Whole Foods Market on South Elliott Road in Chapel Hill generously donated 5% of their sales from Tuesday, February 5th to Volunteers for Youth. Thanks to everyone who came out and shopped that day in support of Volunteers for Youth and to Whole Foods for their generous donation.
  • 30th Anniversary Celebration
    Volunteers for Youth celebrated its 30th anniversary in December, 2012!  Click here to read 30 features of 30 people with Volunteers for Youth connections.
  • The Standard Restaurant Profit Share
    On Sunday, December 16th, 2012, The Standard Restaurant on West Rosemary Street in Chapel Hill honored Volunteers for Youth’s 30th anniversary with a special pizza.  30% of the proceeds  went to Volunteers for Youth.  The owners are just a few of the countless people who have been positively impacted by the work of Volunteers for Youth these past 30 years.   The Standard is open from 5:00 pm until 2:00 am.
  • 13th Annual Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Local Youth
    Nearly 100 golfers turned out at UNC’s Finley Golf Course on September 24th, 2012 for a day of golf and good times. All money raised benefited the programs of Volunteers for Youth. Thanks to Hubert and Leslie Davis, who host the event and our many community sponsors who made it possible. Stay tuned for details of money raised and to find out how you can participate next year.
  • The Anathoth Garden
    Several of the participants in Volunteers for Youth’s community service program are featured in this amazing story about one of our longest-standing worksites, the Anathoth Garden.
  • The “Every One Counts” Campaign: A Great Success
    On March 1st, 2011 Volunteers for Youth launched the Every One Counts campaign with a goal of raising $20,000 to help support VFY’s mission in today’s challenging economy. VFY hosted several events throughout the campaign to raise money and to raise awareness of VFY programs.The Every One Counts campaign has raised more than $13,000. Volunteers for Youth is grateful for all of the donations and support received throughout the campaign. Although the official ending date for Every One Counts was June 30th, VFY continues to welcome donations to help the organization reach its goal of $20,000.
